Mar’juan Wells

Evaluation

Mar’juan is a slightly undersized, but physical OF/LHP with his future likely being on the mound. As a LHP, Mar’juan works from a stretch only delivery with moderate effort. Abbreviated arm stroke allows him to hide the ball well. Works from a high ¾ slot with some natural deception to arm action and delivery. Around the zone well with FB (65-69) and should be plenty more velocity to come as he learns to incorporate his lower half into his delivery. Shows feel to spin the baseball with a slurvy type breaking ball (52-59). Very crude on the mound presently with plenty of room to continue improving. As a position player Mar’juan profiles as corner OF. A 7.7 60 yard dash runner, he should be able to continue to improve speed but will likely lack the run tool for CF. At the plate Mar’juan uses a straight away start with a small lunge to the pitcher to begin his swing. Not much separation presently but manages to create some bat speed thru zone. Very limited extension but direct to ball with some feel for the barrel. Has a chance to potentially grow into a little LH power. See a better future with Mar’juan as a pitcher. Has some natural athleticism on the mound which allows to throw strikes despite a very crude present delivery. Will always be a little undersized for a pitcher but like the deception to allow stuff to play slightly up and has a chance to make jumps in quality of stuff with continued pitching development.
