Oliver is a strong, durable, medium framed catcher with an ideal catchers build and room to continue to add strength. Compact type body with present strength and more to come. Offensively Oliver works from a slightly open to square alignment with a small leg kick to help transfer his weight. Small hand load with proper separation and generates quality bat speed thru zone with some strength in swing & a slight uppercut path. Short to the ball and stays thru the ball pretty well. Shows the ability to drive the ball to opposite gap along with some present power to the pull side. Lets it fly at the plate but has a short swing & good bat to ball skills with an accurate barrel. Defensively Oliver profiles as a quality defensive catcher. Moves well behind the plate with quality athleticism and surprisingly good footwork. Folds up well and gets out of his crouch nicely with a quick exchange and a compact arm stroke. Throws show carry and accuracy to 2B, should be a future above average arm. Pop times – 1.95, 2.00. Runs well for a catcher (7.22) and should settle in as about an average runner. Has a chance to be a quality defender at a premium position along with being an offensive threat. See Oliver as a D1 recruiting target.
