Kyle Fitzgerald

Kyle is a long, lean, projectable LHP/OF with a chance to grow into some LH pull power but a better future as a LHP. Long and rangy body, a little narrow framed but has a frame to add lean strength throughout. He's engaging and highly energetic and he plays the game with passion and creativity. Offensively, there is some length in the swing but has some leverage and comes off barrel ok to pull side with chance for some future loft power. Swings it without fear. His carry tool on offense is his speed and baserunning awareness. Once he gets on base he's super-aggressive and looking to both frustrate the opposing pitcher and get an extra base. During the game he stole 3 consecutive bases including home. His time wasn't recorded but he plays Wide-Receiver for his High School football team, so the speed is a real tool. However, our scouts seem to think that Kyle has a brighter future on the mound. Quality pitchers frame with projection remaining. Works from a semi windup, coordinated delivery with good shoulder tilt and some feel to repeat. Medium arm stroke and arm works cleanly, comes from a H ¾ slot and creates good angle to the plate. Seems to create some extension and hide the ball ok to allow FB to play slightly up. Pitches off 4 seam FB (81-84) with an average spin rate (2271), has room for a significant velo jump with added physical development. Shows the makings of a future average SL (66-69). Down ¾ breaker with good shape and tight spin, occasionally has some bite to the finish. Lot of upside here with Kyle, just still learning to control his body to throw consistent strikes. Good projection remaining to stuff. Needs to pitch and get innings. Definitely see him as a quality JUCO target, anywhere in the country, with a chance to make quick, significant jumps as he continues to accumulate innings and eventually land at a quality D1 with a chance to play professional baseball somewhere down the road.
