POSITION
Evaluation
Mariano is an athletically built, young featured outfielder with a good frame to continue to add strength. Athletic kid who is still learning to apply athleticism to the baseball field. Offensively, Mariano starts very closed off and spread out, with a simple heel lift trigger and no stride. He does create a small transfer of weight but hand drop load creates a bit of an uphill path and tends to work in & out of zone very quickly. Mariano has some things to clean up but does show a little bat speed thru the zone with some leverage in path. Some swing and miss for concern but potential chance for some pull side power as he adds physical strength and is able to clean up mechanics in swing. Defensively, Mariano did not get tested too much in this showcase. Moves freely in the outfield and shows some feel for glove drag and outfield footwork. Arm works properly, not a strong arm but backspins the ball with accuracy and a true hop. Should be a future playable arm. Slightly above average runner for his age (7.16 60) and should continue to improve as he matures. Overall, Mariano is a good athlete but just still learning to apply the athleticism into baseball movements. Lot of room to get better and a guy to keep track of his development over coming years.
